History of our rice cracker business In 1946, the founder Mr. Eiji Koizumi initiated “starch syrup” manufacturing. However, his attempt of new manufacturing method of starch syrup met with a hitch and he ended up with a huge amount of surplus of rice which was a main raw material. Then what was hastily started up was manufacturing of rice crackers. Rice crackers, thus, were originally created from the failure in manufacturing starch syrup. “KAMEDA NO KAKINOTANE”, known by everybody nowadays, started to be manufactured in those days. The craftsmen called the shots at that time in the rice cracker/snack industry, although rice cracker/snack manufacturing got into full swing after that when he invited craftsmen of rice cracker/snack processing to work for the company. The Craftsman’s intuition and knack were all that mattered in the industry. The craftsmen’s skill could not be handed down smoothly to the coming generations because it was not scientifically theorized, even if it was assured one. Then, KAMEDA SEIKA started to conduct materials researches on the features of rice and put them in numerical data. KAMEDA SEIKA strived for technology development, new product development and engineering improvement of facility with its entire effort. Then with the rice cracker/snack processing scientifically theorized, it was made possible for the mass production, its technology and know-how to be transferred to the coming generations. New values in rice crackers and snacks have been created by taking new concepts and ideas into rice crackers/snacks which are traditional confectioneries. In 1960s, “ Salad Usuyaki “ or “ Salad Thin Cracker “ was a big hit, followed by “ Happy Turn “ in 1970s. In 1980s, a lot of longtime well selling rice crackers including “ Potapota Yaki”, “ Magari Senbei “ and so forth were introduced into Japanese market. It is amazing that these longtime sellers have been registering its sales growth even after the year 2000.
